A Visit

Yep. Right on time. The annual migration had become quite the popular event in the little town, as with many others.
their peaceful natures long preceded their arrival and set a soothing air about the areas they would pass through before long. the creatures below were happy to leave their homes or break from their usual activities and await the spectacle. The weathered old monument whose original purpose lay long forgotten had come to stand for the beginning of the town's celebration; an uproarious cheer rising from the people when the duo first passed by it.
they seemed to follow the night. no one really knew why. no one knew much of anything about them, actually. where they came from, where their path would end, it was all a mystery, though whether it remained such because of apathy or reverence was unclear. after all, who would dare disrupt such majestic beasts in their journey? they would simply arrive as a pair, parent and child, and gracefully snake their way across the darkened sky, showering all below in the glint of their transfixing whitish lights.
for awhile they simply passed by the each unremarkable town, but in time they grew fond of the people's admiration, and would occasionally make brief stops to stare back at the odd little settlements or lazily float among the building's spires on their way through....

<sup>whoops, it seems i've developed a new species from this. got lots scattered info about them, but several conflicting ideas as well. design's not final either; i was hoping to give them some more ornamentation, but i couldn't think of anything at the time.

now THIS was an interesting experiment. haven't done all-out traditional in so lonnnnnnngg, and especially not with such rough shading. this killed my pencils and erasers >:[
